4 Directors, 4 Scenes, All in 1 Night!
MarcoWoods Productions in association with Gemini Players presented, An Evening Four Scenes at the Stage Left Café on April 5, 6 and 12.
An Evening Four Scenes is a project that was designed to give new and upcoming directors the chance to spread their wings and experience all the technical aspects that go into directing a show. Everything from the audition process to the costumes, sound and staging of their particular piece, Evening was designed to be a learning process for all those involved. Consisting of four scenes from different shows, each director will present their scene during the night of the performances. Following the performances, audiences had a chance to share questions with the directors and cast members to discover just how the process worked and what experiences were taken from it. The evening consisted of four completely different pieces that range from comedy to dark drama.
Extremities by William Mastrosimone is directed by Tim Cornwell and features Christy Johanson as Patricia, Kim Scharlow as Terry, David “Doc” Lindquist as Raul, and Cassandra Vohs as Marjorie. This incredibly gripping drama is about a young woman who is attacked in her own home by a rapist. She manages to overpower the man, and imprisons him, bound, inside her fireplace grate. She then proceeds to exact her revenge. When her roommates return she is so crazy they wonder who to believe, their wild eyed roommate, or the guy in their fireplace who claims he was attacked when he stopped by to use the phone.
The Siren Song of Stephen Jay Gould by Benjamin Bettenbender is directed by Sheri Storer and features Gregory Morris as Man and Amanda Latoria as Woman. Siren Song is a comedic and dramatic piece all rolled into one and presents us with two people who fall upon each other (literally) in a failed suicide attempt. As a man deep in distress over the meaning of life and love meets a woman of similar troubles, both find an ironic yet comic solution to their problems.
Men Suck by J. Holtham is directed by Timothy R. Curtis and features Karen Jorgensen as Maggie and Jim Pierce as John. This comedic piece can simply be described as, “the ultimate pick up line.”
Betrayal by Harold Pinter is directed by Shannon Mayhall and features Rob Scharlow as Robert and Sheri Storer as Emma. Betrayal is a labyrinth of love that reaches beyond relationships and explores hidden truths. In the simplest terms, Emma betrays her husband; Jerry betrays his best friend and his wife Judith; and Robert has been betraying Emma with other women. Slated in brilliant dialogue and genuine affection, Betrayal is an “English play that says so little and implies so much.”
